The Peninsula Trust’s 8th AGM was held on Friday 29th September 2023 as part of a larger day; bringing community together to celebrate all of the services, opportunities and activities that TPT offer.
Part 1 – Weekly Meet Up
It started with the Weekly Meet Up in Millbrook; an event that the Trust runs every Friday. In addition to the usual welcoming atmosphere of arts and crafts, free toast, a cuppa and access to support services, there were interactive boards showing information about all of the services that the Trust provides: the Rame Centre, Rame Community Kitchen, the work units, housing, the Old Ship community space, community ownership, volunteering opportunities and so much more. People were asked to creatively share their thoughts in return for a piece of cake (of which there was plenty, lovingly baked by volunteers!). The event was buzzing!
Part 2 – Annual General Meeting
Early evening saw our Chair, Debbie, open the official proceedings of the Trust’s 8th Annual General Meeting. Members packed into the cosy surrounds of the Old Ship in Cawsand. Debbie gave a wonderful and honest presentation about current activities, wins, challenges and future plans; showing how much is achieved by a small organisation. Members agreed last year’s minutes, received the 2023 Trustee Report & accounts, agreed to appoint accountants, not to pay interest and voted Alex Huke, Sharon Lewis and Fiona McBain to the Board of Trustees. Questions were invited and answered, prior to, and during the AGM. Really useful ideas and help were offered by members, showing that TPT truly is a member organisation.
Part 3 – Evening fundraiser & launch of the Community Cookbook
Once the official business was complete, the party began! More of the local community flooded through the doors, the Old Ship Inn bar was open and delicious food was enjoyed from the wonderful Lucy’s Kitchen – showing the Old Ship’s commercial kitchen in full swing. The lovely Leon added to the ambience by mixing soulful tunes and funky beats. People were given the opportunity to creatively comment on homes, food and sign up to be volunteers and members of the Trust. Local Millbrooker, Dave Tetley, invited comments on his new brand and logo design concepts, offered for free to TPT.
TPT staff member, Tanis gave a heartwarming speech about the harsh reality of not being able to afford food and the importance of access to healthy, nutritional food for community wellbeing. Tanis presented the new Rame Community Cookbook (funded by National Lottery Awards For All), containing recipes donated by local resident and beautiful drawings by Fabia, Kelly and local school children! The first 40 copies flew off the shelf, email firstname.lastname@example.org to order yours.
In summary, it was a heartwarming day and evening, full of celebration, community coming together and hope.
Massive thanks to: the wonderful volunteers that dedicate their time to making TPT was it is, Awenek Studio, the staff and volunteer Trustees of TPT, Lucy’s Kitchen, Mammoth Sessions (Leon), cookbook contributors, Plymouth University, Dave Tetley (Studio 51), cakemakers, our funders, the community who turned out to make the day a huge success and those who continue to support TPT from afar.
July 2023 - This is a shout out to our community! We need a new office.
Currently we (Jane, Tanis, Jemma) are squirreled away at the back of the Methodist Hall - our rental agreement with the Methodist Church ends in September and isn't being renewed, so we need a new space where we can continue to do what we do.
Our spaces at the Rame Centre, work units and Old Ship are busy doing what they should, being used by the community - so we can't use those.
We are looking for somewhere:
- Low cost
- Space for 3 desks
- Within walking distance to central Millbrook
- With access to a toilet and tea making facilities
- Available from September (this year - yep, only a couple of months away!).
If you have any suggestions for who to approach or can provide us with a space yourself, it would be much appreciated. Email email@example.com.
